Unimin
owns or operates more than one hundred thousand acres of reserves
worldwide. Managing resources responsibly, conserving water
and energy and have
always been an integral part of our business. Under the guidance
of a corporate environmental officer, and with a full time
staff of biologists and environmental engineers, our goal
is not only to comply with all regulatory legislation, but
to exceed those requirements with respect to the natural resources
in our charge.
Our
commitment takes tangible form in the millions of dollars
expended annually on reclamation and revegetation of mine
sites to create wildlife sanctuaries, fish habitats, wetlands
and prairies. The results are always rewarding. Unimin operates
facilities without impact in fragile wetlands, coexists in
the nesting grounds of protected bird species, and unobtrusively
operates beside recreational swimming and sailing facilities.
Unimin
is actively involved in a variety of conservation and beautification
projects with local and national groups, including the Boy
Scouts, the Audubon Society and the 4-H club. We are also
an active participant in the Wildlife Habitat Council, an
organization dedicated to the enhancement and preservation
of wildlife, and we are proud to list 25 of our operating
sites as WHC certified.
